Paediatrics
You may be aware that several BAA Board Directors have been involved in the Paediatric Improvement Programme led by the CSO England team. We have recently received notifications that the work groups they have been contributing to have all been ‘stood down’. The emails state:
“The programme is now moving into a new phase, and we are conscious of the need to make the most efficient use of our stakeholders’ time. For that reason, we have made the decision to stand down this working group whilst we evaluate the best route to achieving our long- and short-term objectives.
“Continued expert support and input from clinical and scientific colleagues will remain vital to the programme’s success. So, we will be reaching out again to confirm future plans and your willingness and capacity to offer future support.
“Many thanks again for your support and we look forward to reaching out again soon as we move into the exciting next phase.â€
We will be pursuing opportunities to represent our members on the programme in its new phase, whatever that looks like.  In the meantime, Professor Stephen Powis, NHS England’s National Medical Director, and Professor Dame Sue Hill, the NHS Chief Scientific Officer for England, have published a blog Addressing concerns in children’s hearing services, which you can read here:
Conference
In a little over three weeks, we will be in Telford for the 20th BAA conference. Conference is one of the key points in the BAA year, to get together in person to learn, share ideas, network and hopefully enjoy ourselves. Susannah, our Board Director for conference, and the whole conference committee have once again put together two days that are full to the brim of great speakers and talks covering all aspects of audiology. Taking time out of your everyday work and clinics, whilst important, is simply getting harder for a lot of people. We do our best to make sure there is plenty happening at conference to make it worth your while and to ensure you have plenty to take away and be able to use back in clinic. I’ve already started planning what I want to see over the two days – the full programme is online over on the conference pages so you too can plan where you will be over the two days now.
We have also been able to sell out our exhibition space again, so make sure you make the most of seeing all the manufacturers, charities and universities whilst you are finding the coffee and tea. I hope to see some of you there – please do come up for a chat with me or any of the Board – we will all be spending some time at the BAA stand over the 2 days.
Conference also is where we hold our AGM. We will be reviewing what the Board has achieved over the past year, sharing our accounts and introducing our new Board Directors, including handing over to our new President. Remember, YOU are BAA, not just us on its board, so do come along on the Thursday after lunch to hear what everyone has been up to on your behalf.
